Statement on the termination of work suspension at the GCC Patent Office


Further to the statements issued by the office on 16 March 2020, and 30 March 2020 concerning the measures taken by the office, aiming at minimizing the implications of Covid-19 outbreak on patent applicants which included the following:

First: work suspension at the headquarter of the GCC Patent Office from 16 March 2020 until further notice.

Second: extension of time- limits relating to patent applications stipulated in the GCC patent law and its implementing bylaw, which expire during the work suspension period, and such extension are deemed void on the first working day following the work suspension period.

Third: continuation of all procedures relating to the processing of patent applications filed with the GCC Patent Office to be remotely dealt with through the “Hemaya” Platform.

Drawing upon what has been issued by the GCC Secretariat
General concerning work resumption, the following has been decided:

1) Continuation of work at the headquarter of the GCC Patent Office starting from Sunday 31 May 2020.
2) The extension of time-Limits related to patent applications stipulated in the GCC patent law and its implementing bylaw will expire by the end of Sunday 31 May 2020 based on paragraph 3 of Article 6 of the Implementing Bylaws of the GCC Patent Regulation.
